Faith Hope Walker

This is my latest little crush, Faith Hope Walker. The title links to a news report of a miracle in progress, for this beautiful baby girl was born with an incomplete brain. Experts reviewing her recent CAT scans verified that she should not be alive. Hundreds have followed Faith's remarkable life at her mother' blog:

When Faith's anencephaly  was discovered during a routine prenatal ultrasound, doctors advised Myah to abort the child. In spite of predictions that her baby would die during or shortly after birth, Myah continued the pregnancy to delivery. She hoped for little more than a few moments of life to provide the closure of bidding her daughter farewell. Now nearly ten weeks old, Faith defies the odds against her grim medical prognoses, which included quadriplegia and responselessness, by breathing on her own. opening her blue eyes, startling to sound and moving voluntarily. She has grown to surpass her birthweight, with help of auxilliary feeding through the stomach-tube she wears in the photo.

Recently, outsiders without personal interest in this little family began blogging attacks on "Faithy," as Myah fondly calls her daughter. Because Faith has a severe handicap with little expectation for a normal life, these behave as if she has no right to life. Some comments contain death threats against this infant who so bravely survives. Others threaten to report Myah, a clearly dedicated, caring mother, to protective services.  What agenda motivates such people? Why can't this family live in peace with their medical choice to grant Faith whatever life she is given? Why can choice only expressed through killing the imperfect -- wasn't the mother's decision also a protected choice?

Such vicious cyber-bullying and stalking has forced Myah into retreat. Unfortunately, protection from these harmful people necessarily denies access to a supportive network of friends.  Today, we discovered that Myah has dismantled her facebook page and removed ability to comment or e-mail from her blog. A prayer group supporting Myah and Faith was similarly forced to screen membership and access to posting pictures, videos and links. Please join in spirit with those who pray protection and love for Myah, Faith and her grandmother.

  1. Peoples minds are becoming more seared all the time. When you have laws protecting whales from being killed and laws that let you abort the unborn something is wrong with that society.
