My sister Cindy raved about "Up", then posted an endearing review about how deeply it affected the elderly stranger seated to her right (possibly Howard). Rather than have the movie experience ruined by others telegraphing the plot, my husband and I attended a late night 3-D viewing as soon as possible. The first hint that this movie will become an exceptional cultural touchpoint was discovering an audience of over 50 adult viewers on a Wednesday at 9:30 p.m. in Cheyenne, Wyoming.
"Up" is written for adults. Although children will enjoy the talking dogs plot device, this movie is about profound loss, pursuing unfulfilled dreams and finding renewed reality. It is about true love. You will cry, but you will also laugh joyously. After the final flicker of the credits died out, I went home feeling renewed -- as if I had been to church, rather than an animated feature. "Up" is that good.
